Our Mission

Sadie’s Gift is committed to helping improve the lives of sick children and their families. We provide an infrastructure to do so at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. We will succeed by having fun, running and raising $1,000,000 by 2016.

What have we done so far?

  • In 2007 the inaugural Team Sadie of 65 runners ran in the Baltimore Running Festival and raised over $100,000 to sponsor a PICU family consultation room in the new Johns Hopkins Children’s Center building. This room will be named in Sadie’s honor.
  • In 2008 & 2009 we established the Sadie Elizabeth Abell Endowment for Pediatric Simulation Training. This endowment will exist in perpetuity and one day will fully fund “Sadie’s Boot Camp”. Read more about the Boot Camp here.
  • In 2010 Team Sadie raised over $75,000 for the purchase of a dedicated Simulation Infant Mannequin. SimSadie, as we like to call her, is one of the most tehnologically advanced simulation mannequins that any children’s hospital has in use. SimSadie is used to train doctors with their technical and communication skills.
  • Since 2011 Team Sadie has grown to 200 runners and continues to add funds to Sadie’s Endowment.

Where are we headed?

To fully cover the cost of the annual Boot Camp, Sadie’s Endowment balance must be $1,000,000. We plan to hit the million dollar mark by December 17, 2016 which would be Sadie’s 10th birthday. We can not do it without your help. Are you up to the challenge? Can you help complete the mission? We know you can!
